Event Summary

Japan has started the JCM since 2013 and has been implementing more than 160 JCM projects with 17 partner countries which promotes mitigation actions in these countries. In order to effectively scale up the JCM, collaborations with various stakeholders and effective contributions to NDCs implementation in partner countries are required. In this side event, speakers from relevant organizations and JCM partner countries reported and discussed the status of collaboration and progress of scaling-up the JCM.

Panelists and participants discussed how the JCM can be effectively scaled up and how countries can use it to implement their NDCs; the methodology for scaling up and replicating JCM projects; the potential for linking the JCM to the carbon market in Japan and/or regional carbon markets; and links between the JCM and multilateral development banks, with panelists stressing the need for country-driven programmes to meet national goals and targets.
