Mitigation and adaptation to take advantage of innovation ―The importance and the future of CSP including mirror and promotion of water purification system in India―
Organizer
- AGC Inc.
- RIOGLASS SOLAR, S.A.U.
Event Overview
AGC is a global material manufacturer extending its business into glass, electronics, chemicals and ceramics fields, with world-leading technologies and expertise developed over more than 110 years. In this presentation by AGC, we will introduce application examples for each case using AGC technology for mitigation and adaptation. As an example of mitigation, we can contribute to concentrated solar power (CSP) in Chile. CSP has several characteristics that differ from Photovoltaic generation, but any type of CSP uses mirrors. Glass is an important component that affects the performance of the mirror and the efficiency of power generation. Let's take up this glass as a theme and explain how we can contribute. Water issues are both adaptation issues and SDG goals. AGC is aiming to promote the popularization of a purification system that can purify contaminated groundwater by using electrodialysis in India to produce drinking water and irrigation water. In the future, we are planning to expand not only to India but also to other countries where water access is a challenge. Introducing the advantages of water purification system using electrodialysis.

Event Summary
First, Ignacio, a CEO of RIOGLASS SOLAR, S.A.U., gave an overview of solar power generation, its types, and potential. Solar thermal power (CSP) generation can reduce scope 1 carbon dioxide emissions by supplying power and heat. Next, from Dr. Okabe, a professional of the SDGs Division of AGC's Corporate Planning General Division, explained that all types of mirrors are used in solar thermal power generation and mentioned about technological innovation of glass material for CSP. As for the water purification system, the key to success in developing countries was the cooperation with local partner companies, cost reduction and maintenance through local production A59as much as possible.
Message and Results
Solar thermal power generation (CSP) is not competing with solar power generation (PV) and can complement power generation especially from sunset to sunrise. In addition, it can supply heat and can be expected to be used for industrial purposes such as mining. The electrodialysis water purification system is expected to be used not only for drinking water but also for irrigation.
