Session Summary
Regarding 10years efforts future-oriented recovery from the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011 accompanied by the accident occurred at TEPCO’s Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant and efforts to aiming at advanced regions for decarbonization, the presentation was implemented by the Ministry of the Environment, Fukushima Prefecture, Okuma town and Namie town.
Fukushima Prefecture has declared "Fukushima Prefecture 2050 Carbon Neutral" and gave a lecture on through energy saving measures, promotion of further utilization of renewable energy, technology development for reuse of carbon dioxide capture, efforts for change life styles by working together with all the citizens.
And Okuma Town has given a lecture on efforts toward Zero Carbon city concealing their feeling “Because we had a pain to be forced to leave this town by an evacuation order, we would not like to see people suffering from the same pain by climate change in the next decade”.
Furthermore, Namie Town has given a lecture to introduce its activities: leading Namie Hydrogen Town concept promotion and signing the world’s first for hydrogen partnership declaration toward the realization of a hydrogen society, expanding the circle of local governments to the world.
In addition, a lecture on the current state of energy conversion in Japan and future issue from a global perspective by comparison with Germany was give German scholar and at the end of the seminar, we made efforts to disseminate accurate information about the current situation of Fukushima, such as reporting from a British woman lived in Fukushima over 4years after the disaster about the charms of Fukushima.
Message and Results
Since many countries think that nuclear power generation is indispensable in their efforts toward the realization of decarbonized society, many people are interested in how the areas damaged by the accident caused by nuclear power generation are being regenerated and reconstructed, and we received more visitors than expected from people of various backgrounds, regardless of nationality, age and gender.
While there are many people overseas who have not updated their memories since the accident at the nuclear power plant and have a false impression of Fukushima, they are advancing the development of sustainable towns that utilize the renewable energy of the region. We believe that we were able to promote understanding by directly communicating the current situation in Fukushima, such as what we are working on.
The Ministry of the Environment will continue to enhance international information dissemination and try to ensure that Fukushima is properly recognized.
