“Climate Change Capacity Building –Driving Climate Actions through CITC”
As one of the technical cooperation projects of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) with technical support by the Overseas Environmental Cooperation Center, Japan (OECC), Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organization (TGO) established and operating the Climate Change International Technical and Training Center (CITC) since 2014. And co-organizers reported latest status of the CITC and introduced JICA and OECC’s efforts related to the climate change capacity building.
Video presentation introduced brief introduction of CITC’s activities. And followed this video presentation, Dr. Natarika Wayuparb Nitiphon, Deputy Executive Director, TGO explained the latest activities of the CITC and she stressed that the CITC now focusing to raise quality of services.
Dr. Masato Kawanishi, JICA introduced their technical cooperation projects with TGO since 2010. The first phase supported capacity building of officials of TGO and the second phase of project assisted establishment and developed training curriculum. And the third phase, just started from this year focusing to enhance the activities of the CITC.
Prof. Dr. Kazuhiko Takemoto, OECC introduced various efforts and programmes of climate change and SDGs related capacity development activities by OECC. Also introduced OECC’s technical support for TGO to establish and manage the CITC.
In the Question & Answer and Discussion session, there are several questions including follow-up actions of after the CITC trainings and possibility to inter-regional cooperation between CITC and training programmes in South Asian region. Also received voice from CITC alumni and introduced effectiveness of knowledge and experience from the CITC training event.
Reconfirm of the CITC’s climate change capacity building services contributing to stakeholders in Thai and Southeast Asian countries. In order to increase awareness of the CITC as a regional training center, it is needed to expand the scopes of training curriculum. Also TGO, the operation entity of the CITC highlighted that quality improvement is the key for capacity building activities. Follow-up actions for CITC training participants to implement mitigation and/or adaptation measures, and training cooperation among regions are subjects to be considered in near future.
