Session Summary
Given the need for rapid and substantial emissions reduction to achieve the 1.5°C target, the Government of Japan announced "Japan’s Assistance Package to Promote Investments for Global Actions Toward the Achievement of the Paris Agreement Goals.” on 9 Dec. This package aims to resolve the three gaps, namely the "ambition gap," "adaptation gap," and "implementation gap," by establishing a foundation to promote investments for decarbonization and adaptation, and to bring emissions "on track."
In this event, Japan's policies including the assistance package and science-based long-term strategy cooperation were explained. Also, participating countries gave statements which included topics such as the importance of science-based policy making, the represented countries' GHG reduction targets and efforts to achieve them, existing cooperation with Japan and expectations for future cooperation.
In this decisive decade toward achieving the 1.5°C target, Japan will do its utmost to support countries around the world in moving forward to raise their ambitions and take actions through this assistance package.
