Abstract

This seminer will introduce and discuss the decarbonization initiatives in ASEAN countries and Japan, focusing on energy conservation and renewable energy, The ASEAN side will share the value of region-wide initiatives and challenges to overcome on their projects, introducing the activities of CEFIA, which are public-private partnership initiatives. The Japanese side will present the new financing initiatives and technologies to promote decarbonization projects in ASEAN.

Session Summary
This event featured the decarbonization initiatives in ASEAN countries and Japan focusing on energy conservation and renewable energy, During the event, the ASEAN side shared the value of region-wide initiatives and challenges to overcome on their projects, introducing the activities of AZEC and CEFIA, which are public-private partnership initiatives. The Japanese side presented the new financing initiatives and technologies to promote decarbonization projects in ASEAN.
In Session 1, the governments of Indonesia, Malaysia and Vietnam presented their on-going projects and initiatives. Mr. Harris, Director of Geothermal, Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources of Indonesia, shared the progress and challenges of project of renewable-based micro-grids in remote island, which is being promoted with Japanese Business Alliance for Smart Energy Worldwide (JASE-W). Mr. Steve, Director of Energy Demand Management Division, SEDA Malaysia, introduced ZEB projects in Malaysia and a policy roadmap for the develppment of ZEB. Mr. Luong, Director of the GHG reduction and Ozone layer Protection, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of Vietnam presented the policy making and achievements of decarbonization project and financing scheme under AZEC.
In Session 2, four Japanese companies introduced new technologies and financing activities that contribute to decarbonization in the gloabl society. Mr. Isono, President & Group CEO of Oji Holdings, introduced their activities of quantification and recognizition of the value of natural capital. Mr. Kamiwaki, Representative Director and Senior Managing Executive Officer of Sekisui Chemical, introduced the perovskite solar cells and its technological development. Dr. Kubota, Managing Executive Officer, IHI Corporation introduced how to utilize ammonia and a roadmap for technological development toward decarbonization. Mr. Nakahama, Managing Executive Officer, MUFG Bank, Ltd. mentioned that many companies face the difficulties of development of transition plans and economic sustainability, then introduced two initiatives as solutions: the Renewable Energy Alliance (real), and blended finance Project GAIA.
Message and Results
To achieve the goal of carbon neutral by 2050, Japan and ASEAN will continue sharing the challenges and issues of decarbonization in each countires and work closely together to bring the solutions. As means for this, we will continue strong collaboration through AZEC and CEFIA projects, and coordinate the new technologies and financing schemes.
