Abstract

Facing with the global crisis of climate change, dedicated discussion were held in G7 Japan (Hiroshima), and the leaders recognized the importance of the range of pathways to approach the goal in line with trajectories required for keeping a limit of 1.5℃ within reach.
In our event, we will discuss potential of diverse solutions, co-benefits in respective fields of “Production”, “Transport”, and “Utilization” which covers life-cycle of the vehicle from aspect such as, "Diversity in Carbon Neutrality" the concept which was shown at the exhibition that JAMA held during G7 Japan, joint conceptional statement of Auto-industries in G7 countries, latest scientific perspective, and nature based solution.

Session Summary
Inviting IPCC AR6 WG3 Chapter10 Transport CLA (Coordinating Lead Author), Technical Director of Brazilian Association of Automotive Vehicle Manufacturers (ANFAVEA) and General Manager of BR Bio Project Dept, Daihatsu Motor, we discussed potential of diverse solutions, co-benefits in respective fields of “Production”, “Transport”, and “Utilization” which covers life-cycle of the vehicle from aspects such as the exhibition "Diversity in Carbon Neutrality (CN)" that JAMA held during G7 Japan, latest scientific perspective, and local biomass resource utilisation. Professor Jun Arima of the University of Tokyo, author of the IPCC AR6, moderated the discussion.
Professor Suzana Ribeiro of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro explained that there are various options for reducing CO2 emissions, depending on the situation in each country, and the importance of accelerating the transition to decarbonisation and expanding the possibilities by commercialising technologies that do not exist today.
Mr Henry Junior of ANFAVEA stated that there are two technological pathways for reducing CO2 emissions in the automotive sector, namely electric vehicles and biofuels, and that in particular, biofuel vehicles are in the implementation phase in Brazil.
Ms Mari Uenishi of Daihatsu Motor Co. explained a project to locally produce and consume biomass resources in cooperation with rice farmers, Omi beef farmers, manufacturers and the government. She stressed that this project could be applied in other regions of the world and could contribute to the multiple targets of the SDGs.
Mr Takao Aiba of the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association explained that the various options (technologies and efforts) for CN are in the implementation phase and that multi-pathway is important.
Throughout the session, we shared the message shared at the G7 Hiroshima that it is important to respect national and regional diversity and being technology open and “multi-pathway approaches” toward the 2050 Carbon Neutrality, with leading figures from Brazil, host of the G20 in 2024 and COP30 in 2025, as well as with the audience.
