Seminar abstract

The early and robust implementation of the 'high integrity carbon market' is necessary for the advancement of global emissions reductions. Thus, the Ministry of the Environment, Japan will establish the "Paris Agreement Article 6 Implementation Partnership" as an international initiative. Through this Partnership, support for Article 6 capacity building, information sharing, and collaborations to overcome challenges will be enhanced.
In this event, the Partnership will be launched and promoted with various speakers.

Session Summary

In this event, NISHIMURA Akihiro, Minister of the Environment, Japan declared the launch of the “Paris Agreement Article 6 Implementation Partnership” towards the development of high integrity carbon markets.
Then, keynote statements for the Partnership were given by high-level participants from 10 Partner countries and organizations.

At the time of launch (November 16, 2022), 40 countries and 23 institutions have pledged to participate, and we aim to further expand the partnership in the future.

Stakeholders who are willing to contribute to this Partnership’s areas of work are welcome to join the Paris Agreement Article 6 Implementation Partnership by sending the “Join us” form on the Partnership website.
Areas of work include the following:

  • ・Facilitate understanding of Article 6 rules and linkages with NDCs
  • ・Share good practices for institutional arrangements incl. authorization and recording
  • ・Develop an information platform for Article 6 implementation 
  • ・Conduct mutual learning and trainings for Article 6 reporting and review
  • ・Support baseline methodology (tool development, etc.)
  • ・Designing of high integrity carbon markets
