Oceans Action Day
Organizer
- Ocean Policy Research Institute of the Sasakawa Peace Foundation (OPRI-SPF)
- Oceano Azul Foundation
- Because the Ocean Initiative
- Global Ocean Forum (GOF)
Event Overview
While the ocean plays a large role in absorbing and fixing greenhouse gases emitted from human activities, climate change has large-scale impacts on the marine environment including ocean warming, sea level rise, as well as ocean acidification. In order to achieve the long term goals of the Paris Agreement and UNFCCC, not only Parties but multistakeholders are required to promote their climate action.
The Ocean Policy Research Institute of the Sasakawa Peace Foundation (OPRI-SPF), in collaboration with the Oceano Azul Foundation, the Global Ocean Forum, and other partners, will co-host the parallel sessions of the "Oceans Action Day" (as one of GCA events) on December 7. Parallel sessions will take place to discuss various ocean and climate change issues, based on the latest findings of the IPCC’s Special Report on Ocean and Cryosphere (SROCC).
