Event Summary

Japan Climate Initiative (JCI) is a newly established non-state actor’s initiative on 6th July 2018 to join the front line of the global push for decarbonization from Japan. It started with 105 member organizations and the number has already increased to more than 300, It is also the first member alliance of "Alliances for Climate Action", a global network of domestic multi-sector coalitions committed to supporting the delivery and enhancement of their countries’ climate goals.
In this event, JCI member organizations discussed their roles and vision towards a decarbonized society.

Message

This was the first event for JCI to held an event at a COP. Panelists introduced ambitious goals and their efforts towards 2050, and discussed on IPCC 1.5 ° C Special Report, Japan's Long-Term Strategy and cooperation among non-state actors, etc. There were many foreign participants, and we were oursevels encouraged to hear several positive feedbacks, such as impressed by JCI, as the first initiative of non-state actors outside the US, encouraged by positive messages from Japanese non-state actors.
