~ Challenge to weight reduction of automobile by utilizing CNF! ~
NCV (Nano Cellulose Vehicle) Project
Cellulose nanofiber (CNF) is a material composed of nanosized cellulose fibrils. This plant-derived material, which offers high strength and high modulus is expected to be used in products in various fields as the next generation material. The Ministry of the Environment of Japan launched the NCV (Nano Cellulose Vehicle) project which is designed to develop lightweight automotive components by utilizing CNF.
At the Tokyo Motor Show 2019, the NCV concept car adopted CNF automotive parts as much as possible was exhibited. This time, the bonnet molded with 100% CNF actually mounted on the concept car is on display.
By using CNF lightweight materials in automobiles, it is expected to contribute to the reduction of CO2 emissions by weight reduction of automobiles, the reduction of plastic material usage, and the creation of a Regional Circular and Ecological Sphere.
